The concept
What is Dancer Speed Dating?
It's social dancing reimagined as a structured mixer. Instead of hoping someone asks you to dance, every leader and follower rotates through multiple partners across the night in an organised format. Think speed dating, but the goal is finding great dance partners on and off the dancefloor!
Events are small, private, and invite-only. Bachata and salsa are the primary styles. All levels are welcome.
Questions
FAQ
Do I need to know how to dance?
Participants do not need to know how to dance but it helps! During the speed dating portion, participants will be sitting down conversing. Most events will have a mini dance lesson with a social dancing component after the speed dating. These events are made for all levels. The structured rotation means you're never stuck if a pairing isn't working for you, you'll rotate soon.
Am I a leader or a follower?
Traditionally leaders lead and followers follow in partner dancing. If you're new and unsure, just pick whichever feels natural. You can always switch at future events. The Matchbox system pairs based on role so the floor stays balanced.
What is Matchbox?
Matchbox is your pre-event dance profile. You fill it out after receiving your invite — it covers your dating style and preferences. The Cupid Crew uses it to determine your top match and build the rotation order for the night.
What's the deadline to complete Matchbox?
Matchbox must be completed before you check in at the door. If the Cupid Crew can't confirm your payment before then, your Matchbox submission will be cancelled and your spot will be released.
Is everyone guaranteed to get in?
Not everyone is guaranteed a spot. The Cupid Crew reviews every interest form submission. Events are kept intentionally small and balanced between leaders and followers. If you're not selected, you'll be added to the waitlist and given priority for the next event.
How much does it cost?
Pricing varies per event and is included in your invite text. Payment must be confirmed before the day of the event to hold your spot.
Can I come alone?
Yes, most people do! The whole point of the format is to meet new dance partners, so coming solo is the ideal way to experience it.
Can I bring a friend?
Have them submit their own interest form as each person needs their own invite and confirmation. Walk-ins without a confirmed spot aren't guaranteed entry.
What if I can't make it after paying?
Reach out to the Cupid Crew as early as possible via
@dancerspeeddating on Instagram. If there's a waitlist we can usually fill your spot and arrange a credit toward a future event.
How are matches revealed?
Results are announced live at the event via Matchbox. We begin rotations for the evening with your top Matchbox match.
What happens after the match reveal?
You're welcome to exchange contact info on the spot — it's totally up to you. After the event, the Cupid Crew will send a post-event survey asking who you were most interested in. If there's a mutual match, contact info will be shared between both people (based on your preferences). Think of it as a "you matched" message for anyone who was too shy to ask on the night. Currently the survey runs via Google Forms in a user friendly format. The Cupid Crew is working to bring a future Dance Hub update which will present your fellow attendees directly so you can check them off in one tap. Stay tuned!
What if someone doesn't show up?
The Cupid Crew keeps the Matchbox count as even as possible. If there's an imbalance on the night, matches are re-assigned on the spot. In the rare case of a single odd person out, they may sit out the first round but we do our best to keep everyone meeting and connecting.
How often do events happen?
Events aren't on a fixed schedule. Joining the community list is the best way to stay in the loop. You'll get a text when the next one opens up.
